Program Description:

Temple Sinai’s Teen Foundation is an exciting initiative exclusively for 8th graders. The program is designed build on the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Mitzvah Project experience. It also helps bridge the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience with our youth program for high school students. This select group of 8th graders spend the year learning about local non-profit organizations and the importance of philanthropy through site visits to local organizations, hands-on service and group discussions. After learning about the issues facing our community, the teens select an issue on which they focus their philanthropy and solicited grant proposals from organizations that work on this issue. They then review the grant proposals and award grants shortly from a philanthropic pool comprised of personal contributions from the Teens and their families and money they raise through a fundraising event for their peers.
