Jewish Teen Leadership and Philanthropy Institute
Imagine yourself on a Foundation Board where you evaluate programs and allocate money to worthy causes. How will you decide which ones to fund? That is the focus of the Jewish Teen Leadership and Philanthropy Institute. Teens begin learning about Philanthropy in the classroom, then quickly move to the field. Over 4 semesters of study, students will: clarify their values and learn about giving from a Jewish perspective; hear first-hand accounts from community philanthropists and community workers; visit community agencies and learn about their work; solicit and evaluate grant proposals; allocate $3,000 to community agencies; learn about foundations and legacy gifts; meet and interview legacy donors; and, engage in community service projects. Students who have studied with the Institute over two school years have the opportunity to do an independent tzedakah practicum or serve on a community agency Boards of Directors.
