5 Ways to Tap Into the Network
08/31/2009

Hi all!

I hope you are enjoying a great summer. Someone recently asked me, “How can I get more involved with the Jewish Teen Funders Network? I’m on your mailing list and I get your emails, but I want more!” As we gear up for another program year, and in the hope that there are more of you out there sharing the same sentiment, I’m writing with five specific invitations (in increasing levels of involvement) to join JTFN and tap into the amazing network of folks involved in Jewish teen philanthropy programs around the world:

  1. Join JTFN on Facebook
It’s easy! All you have to do is type “Jewish Teen Funders Network” into the search button in the upper right-hand corner of your Facebook homepage. Then, click on “Become a Fan” and join 119 of your colleagues in sharing your excitement about Jewish teen philanthropy. Consider inviting your teens to join as well.

  2. Tap the Network through the JTFN Listserv
Send a blank email to jtfn-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and access over 80 leaders of Jewish teen philanthropy programs with the click of a button. It’s a great tool when you need new ideas, fresh perspectives, or programmatic suggestions. Note: you can set up your preferences so that you receive just one email digest a day, so no need to worry about clogging up your inbox.
  1. Participate in a Lunch & Learn Focus Group
Over 300 of you have participated in one or more of JTFN’s Lunch & Learn teleconference calls, in which we heard from various guest speakers and experts. Now we want to hear from you – about the topics you’d most like to cover in these calls, the people you’d most like to learn from, creative formatting ideas you may have, and so on. If you would like to participate in a 1-hour focus group meeting (by phone) in the early fall, please email and let me know.
  1. Offer and Receive Support through JTFN Peer Consultations
Many of you participated in a peer consultation at the past two JTFN Seminars, and your feedback about the experience was overwhelmingly positive. We understand that the opportunity to share a pressing challenge with colleagues in a safe and structured manner, and then to work through various ways of addressing it, is invaluable...especially when so many of you struggle with feeling that you are operating in a vacuum, without other teen philanthropy colleagues in your community. JTFN will pilot a series of peer consultations by phone this fall/winter; if you are interested in participating or learning more, please email and let me know.
  1. Join a JTFN Working Group
At this year’s JTFN Seminar, participants identified four top-priority areas to work on this year:

    (1) Reflective Learning: How to Make Education “Stick”

    (2) Technology: Sharing New Tools and Resources

    (3) Connecting Teen Participants/Local Programs to Each Other

    (4) Alumni: What’s Next for Teen Participants of Jewish Teen Foundations?

We established working groups to focus on each of these areas, and want to extend the opportunity to those of you who were not with us for the conference to participate. If you are interested in joining a working group, please email and let me know which group(s) you’d like to join.

I look forward to hearing from many of you and working together as we continue to build and strengthen the field of Jewish teen philanthropy!

Best,

Stefanie
